SmackDown Live - March 19, 2019

This SmackDown is brought to you by KofiMania. That was pretty much the whole point of the show this week with a few other random things peppered in the beginning. Let’s just get to the main point, Kofi was put in this ridiculous Gauntlet match where he had to go against five different guys and win just to be able to be in WrestleMania. No problem, right?

We start off this super long match with Kofi versus The Bar, specifically with Sheamus and Cesaro taking on the first two slots. The match is always pretty amazing with Kofi right now because he has a very high flying and dynamic style. I think that might be why people enjoy him. I hope it isn’t for the pancakes and pigtails. Ugh, we can only hope the fans are a little more deep! So it is a pretty grueling first two matches. This match up is one of my favorites which is probably why they seem to replay it over and over. The style of Kofi with his flips and rope jumps is a nice combo with the power style of The Bar. I also enjoy that The Bar brings this kind of angry brute force with a little bit of devil may care. I just super love those guys. It is rare for me to like the bad guys so this is a fun. Kofi of course defeats them because let’s be honest, there was still about 45 minutes left in the show and what else are you going to fill it with?

So next match is against Rowan. This one worried me a little because he is so flipping large! Like what does this guy eat for breakfast everyday…especially as a friend of the Planet’s Champion he can only have like plants and nuts. Anyway, Rowan comes in and is very, very, very aggressive. Kofi does an okay job with it but at this point I think he might be slightly tired. In the end it was a DQ because Rowan decided to use a chair. Ugh, way to go dude. That match ended quickly but it looked like Kofi had a pretty destructive experience where he got thrown on the announcer table. These announcer tables are very unstable because they break all the time. Anyway, the thing that was weird about this was that Rowan didn’t remove the screens on the table. That usually is a big part of the whole pageantry of the table smash. They do a nice sweeping of the stuff on the table and then throw the person down. Poor Kofi got thrown down on top of the video screens! Like what? Now we are all assuming that Kofi is pretty much done. Nope not yet!

Out comes my leave favorite person because he is just a giant meanie: Samoa Joe. Everyone of course chants “Joe Joe Joe” and he runs out with that really annoyed face. This part I spent mostly just complaining about Joe so I kind of missed what happened. I knew that Kofi would win because again, we have about 20 minutes left so what else are they going to do? There were some pretty great moves on both sides (much to my dismay) but alas mean Joe lost.

At this point I am starting to feel bad for Kofi. Like dude is really struggling here. Joe also did what Joe does best and attacked him after the count out so there’s that too. Hooray for Kofi that the slowest walker in the WWE is up next: Randy Orton. Yep. Out saunters the Viper and he takes an extra long time to get the ring. I’m sure this is on purpose. So you feel super bad that Randy is there because dude is also a monster. The match is a lot of slow movements from Randy and quick and exhausted kicks from Kofi. In the end though, Kofi wins! Everyone celebrates and his little pancake friends run out and celebrate. Hooray, show over right? Nope. We still have like 10 minutes left.

Out walks Vince McMahon. Oh that man is so mean. He then says Kofi has to beat one more person. Everyone boos and throws a fit and then out walks Daniel Bryan! HOOORAY! I’m so glad I stayed awake for this! The Planet’s Champion looks extra nice this week because his bruises from a few weeks ago finally healed. This is kind of a one way match because Kofi is tired and they aren’t going to have the champion lose to an already exhausted guy. So Daniel won and it was super exciting for me but devastating for all those Kofi fans because it means no WrestleMania. I mean yes, the will probably be there, but the draaaammmmaaa people.

What else happened:
Kevin Owens had this kind of annoying “talk show” with Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch that of course ended badly with them fighting. I really don’t like the character of Kevin Owens. He just
makes me want to smack him.
Bayley and Sasha had a match against the Iconics which the Iconics cheated and won. No surprise there. The only thing that my husband pointed out was that he didn’t understand if the Iconics were supposed to be a joke/comedy team or if they just come off that way because they aren’t very good. I think it is a little of both, or they are so good that you can’t even tell anymore. I find them too screechy and I don’t like that because I think it encourages stereotypes of women fights (you know claws out). Eh. This was a space filler for me.
